 FOCUS SESSION

Roundtable Discussion on Advancing Transport Leadership Program (ATLP)
21 May 2026, Thursday
2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Auditorium Hall 2

Strong transport leadership is essential for addressing the region's persistent and emerging challenges, including a US$43 trillion infrastructure gap, rising emissions, and continuing road safety risks.

The Advancing Transport Leadership Program (ATLP) is a five-day, in-person initiative designed to equip transport professionals with competencies required for effective sector leadership. The program adopts a case-based learning approach, enabling participants to analyze real-world transport challenges and apply practical, evidence-based solutions. ATLP strengthens understanding of emerging transformative technologies and supports application of systematic methodologies to advance sustainable mobility solutions at scale.

Across 2025-2027, the program aims to enhance skills of approximately 120 ADB transport staff, with a comparable number of developing member country officials also expected to participate. ATLP also provides a platform for ADB and DMC teams to collaboratively identify potential areas of assistance and foster transformational project pipelines.

This session will review progress following the first two cohorts held in Tokyo and Shanghai in 2025 and will identify opportunities to further strengthen program design and delivery.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Identify lessons from the first two ATLP cohorts.
  2. Assess priority improvements to program design and delivery.3) Build consensus on next steps for upcoming cohorts.
