 TRAINING SESSION

From Strategy to Action – The ADB Green Ports Toolkit
21 May 2026, Thursday
9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Auditorium Hall 1

Ports face intensifying pressure from climate impacts and decarbonization mandates, yet many lack a structured pathway to modernize operations and infrastructure—where do they begin?

This training session will introduce the ADB Green Ports Toolkit, a web-based decision support tool currently under development, to help ports across Asia and the Pacific plan and implement greener, more resilient, and more inclusive port and waterfront developments. Responding to growing pressures from climate change, decarbonization targets, community expectations, and investor requirements, the toolkit translates global best practices and ADB priorities into practical, locally adaptable pathways.

The session will highlight how the toolkit supports port authorities and policymakers in assessing current conditions, prioritize interventions, and move from high-level sustainability ambitions to implementable actions aligned with project preparation and financing. Drawing on real-world experience and early lessons from toolkit development, the session will showcase how ports of different sizes and functions can strengthen resilience, reduce emissions, and enhance social license to operate.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Understand how to use the ADB Green Ports Toolkit as a practical guide for green and resilient port planning and investment.
  2. Discover how ports can apply the toolkit to prioritize actions, strengthen project readiness, and align with climate, environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and resilience objectives.
  3. Understand how a web-based, modular approach can support capacity building and scalable impact across the region.4) Gain concrete ideas on applying the toolkit within their own port, policy, or project development contexts.
