A CLOSER LOOK AT SESSIONS

Dear colleagues,

In the month leading up to the Transport Forum, we'll be sharing highlights of the sessions, and how they reflect the pressing issues of the transport sector today. This week's newsletter features the opening plenary and the road asset management session.

Opening Session:High Level Panel - Transport in Developing Asia's New Normal
2 p.m. - 3: 30 p.m., 24 August (Monday)

The opening plenary brings together some of the region's leading minds in the transport sector to discuss the new normal. The panel is expected to cover questions on how the transport sector has adapted - such as how differently did the OECD countries react as compared to countries in developing Asia?

There have been documented successes on both sides of that "divide" but also lapses. What lessons can we bring forward?

We'll also hear from members of the government and private sector on their first hand experiences in managing the rapid transformation demanded by the pandemic, and how they continue to adapt as conditions shift. What new innovations or technologies have been applied to adapt to these new conditions?

Sustaining Road Infrastructure Quality in Asia and the Pacific: Challenges and Opportunities
10 a.m. - 11: 30 a.m., 25 August (Tuesday)

Road transport systems underpin the foundation of national economies from providing access to social services and markets in rural areas to moving large number of passengers and large tonnage goods. An efficient and safe road transport system is an essential pre-condition for general economic development

Road networks in Asia and the Pacific represent a large sub-sector with large expenditure requirements for improvement, maintenance and operations.

This session will bring together experts from government, development partners and private sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities for improving the sustainability of road investments in roads in developing Asia.
