2:30 pmSession 1: Global & Regional Economic and Markets Outlook

The continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly with countries that have suffered second and third waves, has delayed the expected economic rebound. Economies in the region are on diverging paths. Their trajectories are shaped by the extent of domestic outbreaks, the pace of their vaccine rollouts, and how much they are benefiting from the global recovery. The policy response by governments, central banks and supervisory authorities has continued to focus on limiting the impact of the economic and financial shock including a large fiscal stimulus. Governments are beginning to establish policies to address the effects of climate change and move towards greener and sustainable economic policy framework. A survey of 231 Group of Twenty (G20) economists from finance ministries and central banks finds that respondents saw a green route out of the crisis as also being highly economically effective . This session will assess global & regional growth prospects with a focus on the interest rate and currency outlook in developed & developing Asian economies.
