The Covid-19 pandemic and the induced global lockdown has resulted in
severe socio-economic consequences and has led to a sharp economic contraction
and shocked the global financial system. The policy response of governments, central
banks and supervisory authorities has been unprecedented to limit economic contraction,
ease monetary conditions and deliver stimulative initiatives. This session will assess
global and regional growth prospects, the future for trade and investment,
implications for Asia after US elections and the outlook for interest rates and currencies
in Asia and the Pacific.

Debt Management Offices (DMOs) face many new challenges due to
COVID-19, manifested in increased borrowing programs, rising fiscal risk
and greater operational risk. Volatility has spiked and uncertainty prevails
in the global financial markets with disruption to market access an important
concern. In addition, the operating environment under lockdown has posed
challenges to the punctual and efficient execution of funding and payment programs.
This session will draw on the experiences of experts from a selection of DMOs to
outline the challenges that they face in the current macroeconomic and market
environment, the impact that this is having on policies and operations and
the compensatory initiatives introduced to cope with the new normal.

Market performance has been polarized with a flight to quality and even to cash.
 How should reserve managers invest? Which currencies, markets and products

gold and alternative asset classes? What has been the drawdown on liquidity and
long-term reserves as a consequence of the pandemic? Has the needle moved

Format: Conversation with short presentation

The Covid-19 pandemic and the induced global lockdown have resulted in
severe socio-economic consequences and has led to a sharp economic contraction
and shocked the global financial system. In an economic crisis, fiscal and monetary
measures must be swift, targeted and complementary. Central banks have been at
the forefront of an unprecedented response and deployed the full range of crisis tools
to ease financial stress and thereby support the real economy. But this crisis is not
over yet. How have debt managers and central bankers coordinated their response?
Have Sovereign Wealth Funds played a role during COVID-19? In this session, we have
experienced former central banker who will share his insights on the challenges being
faced and the priorities that lie ahead for central banks in navigating this serious
economic and financial environment.
