 TRAINING SESSION

Translating Poverty and Social Analysis into Transport Project Action
22 May 2026, Friday
11:00 a.m. — 12:30 p.m.
Auditorium Hall 1

Transport investments hold significant potential to reduce poverty and advance social inclusion—enhancing employment opportunities, delivering affordable mobility, improving access to health and education services, and reducing harm from road crashes and unsafe public transport.

This session will demonstrate how ADB’s enhanced Poverty and Social Analysis (PSA) approach, as part of due diligence processes, can maximize transport project impact on poverty reduction and social inclusion. Through practical examples drawn from ADB projects in urban public transit and rural roads, the session will illustrate how explicit project design actions—informed by PSA tools including poverty classification and accessibility analysis—can transform transport investments into tangible outcomes for underserved populations. Case studies will highlight how PSA has shaped project design in contexts ranging from bus rapid transit systems to rural road networks, with GIS-based accessibility analysis demonstrating improved access to key services. Participants will engage in practical discussions relevant to diverse transport project types and development contexts.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Gain enhanced awareness of ADB's PSA approach and its application to transport projects.
  2. Understand the linkage between transport investment design and poverty reduction outcomes.
  3. Appreciate how case study examples demonstrate scope for project design to strengthen poverty reduction and social inclusion benefits.
