 TRAINING SESSION

Evidence and Technology to Drive Impact
22 May 2026, Friday
9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Auditorium Hall 1

The transport sector has increasingly adopted rigorous research methods and innovative technological tools to enhance development impact. But how can these approaches be applied more systematically across projects?

This session will explore how experimental and rigorous evaluation approaches, combined with technologies such as GPS, satellite data, mobile phone data, and artificial intelligence, generate actionable insights for smarter policy and project decisions. The session draws on practical examples and interactive exercises to show how impact evaluation methods strengthen decisions across urban mobility, rural roads, road safety, transport corridors, gender and inclusion, and climate and pollution.

Through hands-on case studies, participants will work in groups to apply evidence-based approaches to real-world transport challenges and learn how to leverage data to maximize development outcomes in an era of growing demands for transport system efficiency, inclusion, and sustainability.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Gain practical understanding of impact evaluation methods applicable to transport infrastructure projects.
  2. Discover how GPS, satellite imagery, mobile phone data, and AI can strengthen transport analytics and decision-making.
  3. Learn strategies to optimize transport investments for economic inclusion, sustainability, safety, and climate resilience.
