 PARALLEL SESSION

Building Resilient Roads: Innovations on ADB Road Projects – Disaster Risk, Climate Change, and Digital Technology
20 May 2026, Wednesday
9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Auditorium Halls 1-2

Roads across Asia and the Pacific face mounting pressures from climate-induced disasters and the urgent need for sustainable infrastructure solutions.

This session brings together practitioners and experts to share frontline experiences and innovative approaches on ADB-financed road projects. Presentations will spotlight engineering and resilience challenges in difficult terrain— where landslides, flash floods, and road closures exact severe economic and social costs—and showcase climate adaptation innovations from the region. Speakers will also examine digital technologies such as remote sensing and AI-powered asset management, and explore innovative financing modalities that incentivize green infrastructure outcomes. A panel discussion with draw out cross-country lessons and pathways to scale, including leveraging the ADB Green Roads Toolkit.

By the end of the session, participants will:

  1. Understand how ADB-financed road projects embed climate resilience and disaster risk reduction into design, construction, and maintenance.
  2. Gain practical knowledge of engineering approaches for roads in challenging terrain, including landslide and flood mitigation strategies.
  3. Discover how digital technologies are transforming road asset management on ADB projects.
  4. Learn how innovative financing modalities can incentivize resilient infrastructure outcomes.
  5. Identify lessons from peer countries and pathways to scale innovative approaches across the region.
