Session B1: Sustainable Bonds and Capital Markets: Accelerating Sustainable Finance at Scale
Promoting a greener and more resilient Asia and the Pacific requires strong private sector participation. Capital markets can play a catalytic role in an otherwise bank-based financial system in the region, where the conditions for mutual benefit are met. This session will discuss how capital markets may be empowered to effectively mobilize sustainable finance from the private sector to support the region’s transition to sustainable development. Topics will include (i) key factors for an enabling sustainable finance ecosystem promoting sustainable capital markets, (ii) emerging innovative financing instruments including green/blue/sustainable/sustainability-linked/digital bonds, and (iii) how carbon markets can help address the negative externalities of greenhouse gas emissions.
