ADB cohosts conference with NUS and PIDS on the emergence of platform economy
VP Bambang Susantono on 5 December at HQ gave a keynote address on the emergence of platform economy. He noted the fundamental changes that the digital platform economies are bringing to the marketplace and people dynamics. He also urged for more research to understand the issues and challenges that Asian policy makers face to unlock the potential of the digital platform economies. Chief Economist and ERCD DG Yasuyuki Sawada also remarked that while digital economy can bring huge socioeconomic benefits, policy reforms are needed to support the transition through investment in digital infrastructure; timely, smart interventions to nurture the digital ecosystem; and the promotion of digital entrepreneurship. The conference co-hosted by ADB with the National University of Singapore and Philippine Institute for Development Studies brought together more than 50 scholars and researchers to discuss the emergence of digital platforms in the region and how Asia can use them to achieve inclusive growth and sustainable development goals.
