To celebrate ADB as the climate Bank for Asia and the Pacific, the Transport Forum 2024 title will be “Clean Transport For All,” and will focus on how the transport sector can decarbonize as well as ensuring climate resilience of transport infrastructure. Transport sector emissions account for around 15% of global emissions from fossil fuel, and the sector has one of the fastest growth rate projections with much of this growth attributed to the Asian region. Transport decarbonization requires a fully comprehensive approach, utilizing the Avoid-Shift-Improve mantra to avoid the need for mobility, shift to more efficient and thus less emitting forms of transport, and to improve mobility with the promotion of net-zero transport vehicles and the phasing out of fossil fuel and internal combustion engine vehicles. Central to the mitigation activities that the transport sector should strive to achieve is the development or decarbonization pathways and ADB is uniquely positioned to provide support to our DMCs to embed transport in NDCs and LTs as well as to embed climate change action in transport policies. On the adaptation side, the sector must ensure transport infrastructure is resilient and ADB is preparing a number of climate resilient and safe road asset management programs to support DMCs in the improvements of infrastructure and operations of their transport infrastructure.

The Forum will: (i) present the solutions for transport to deliver on global commitments and public goods on transport related SDGs and on Paris Agreement commitments; (ii) provide an opportunity for representatives of the Asian transport expert community to develop a greater understanding on key transport issues in the present and near future: (iii) allow those working on real-world sustainable transport solutions such as policy makers, thought leaders, and practitioners to discuss their experiences; and (iv) engage discussions between ADB and its DMCs, private sector clients, and development partners on the challenges and opportunities facing the transport sector. The Forum will also be an ideal opportunity for ADB to showcase the ADB Transport Sector Directional Guide to support DMCs “build forward better” across the region.

The Forum agenda was developed to showcase ADB sector and cross-cutting support, led by the Transport group and bringing in other key sectors from the Sector Group as well as key thematic areas from CCSD.
