Technology Profile

Across Asia-Pacific, millions of homes lack access to safe sources of water. SOURCE Hydropanels offer a self-contained system using solar energy that draws pure water out of an endlessly renewable supply in the air, delivering clean, safe drinking water directly to taps and dispensers.

Because SOURCE technology works entirely off the grid, it is well-suited for rural and last-mile communities with little infrastructure and limited resources. It is also resistant to storms and flooding and can produce water in the driest places on Earth, as well as in areas where water is available, but is not safe to drink.

The SOURCE system is infinitely scalable and applications range from a two-panel array on a home to large water “fields” that serve the entire community. In many cases, it can replace the short-term, high-cost solutions used for water challenges in the region, such as bottled and trucked water.

At a school in Tanna, Vanuatu, where a cyclone destroyed 70% of the area’s infrastructure; in Binta’t Karis, Philippines, which is a five-hour drive from the nearest major city and where dehydration and illness were a constant struggle; and in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, where villagers traveled on foot to collect water from dangerously contaminated rivers, Hydropanels are creating a local supply of clean, safe, climate-resilient drinking water.

SOURCE technology also gives insight into the quality and quantity of drinking water through a cloud-based, 24-hour monitoring system connected to the SOURCE Network Operations Center, which end-users can access through a mobile app.
