Technology Profile

s::can's sensors were the first online, real-time spectral water quality sensors in the world. To date, over 10,000 installations have been completed around the globe.

s::can's technology hinges on the fact that most water quality parameters can be measured with spectrometry-based solutions. The probes are fully submersed in the relevant matrix and can remain there for an extremely long lifespan with hardly any maintenance needed. In addition, no reagents are needed, no consumables are present, and no running costs are involved. Because of these benefits, the technology has been a success. Furthermore, it has a quick cost recovery, with savings.

s::can's sensors and systems are used worldwide for a variety of applications. For drinking water, this can cover monitoring water sources (wells, dams, etc.) to controlling disinfection processes and ensuring stable water quality on the distribution network down to the users' taps.

The systems are also used for wastewater treatment plants for water monitoring and controlling processes, even in the harshest conditions, to ensure that effluent is released according to allowed pollutant concentrations and to optimize treatment processes.

It is also important to note that the probes can be used with s::can's controllers (turnkey solution) or with any existing supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), if needed.

Lastly, the solutions contribute toward water security, supporting countries in ensuring safe water supply for their local populations.
