Maithri Aquatech is an Indian water company that has developed MEGHDOOT – a sustainable water solution as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The solution is based on the concept of Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG), and is capable of generating clean water from air, with zero reliance on ground and surface water sources. It was developed in partnership with the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR-IICT), which aids in water quality testing and filtration research. MEGHDOOT is affordable, eco-friendly, sustainable, decentralized, and scalable.

MEGHDOOT produces clean water by condensing the water vapor present in the air into water, filtering it, mineralizing it, and then dispensing it when required. The produced water is potable and also meets the World Health Organization (WHO) and Indian Standards of Drinking Water Quality. To meet specific mineral requirements, a customized mineral dosing solution can also be provided.

This sustainable solution is eco-friendly as it has zero water wastage and zero carbon emissions, can run on renewable energy, and is a perennial source of water. It is also decentralized, capable of generating water on site when required. With its modular architecture, MEGHDOOT can generate various grades of water (mineral-enriched, demineralized, alkaline, Type-II, Type-III) on a scalable basis to meet requirements of a wide variety of applications such as non-commercial, industrial, agricultural, and others.

MEGHDOOT as an AWG is economical, capable of generating water for as low as $0.01 when running on renewable energy.

As a decentralized solution, MEGHDOOT can be set up in rural communities to not just provide a source of clean, potable water but also provide opportunities for micro-entrepreneurship and employment generation.
