Technology Profile

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is a public interest research and advocacy organization based in New Delhi. CSE researches into, lobbies for, and communicates the urgency of development that is both sustainable and equitable. CSE believes that the scenario today demands using knowledge to bring about change. This is what the company aims to do.

CSE has various online web tools and compendiums to support achieving sustainable and affordable water and sanitation for all.

CSE has MOUNT, which is a one-stop shop for sustainable sanitation solutions for unsewered areas. It is an aggregator platform for various sustainable technologies, encouraging and disseminating knowledge and good practices for wastewater management. (https://www.cseindia.org/mount/home)

Another is SANI-Kit, which is a web-based portal with a comprehensive collection of essential tools to enhance the capability of urban local bodies in India to prepare a high quality, city owned, city sanitation plan. (https://www.cseindia.org/sanikit/index.html)

CSE also has
C-GINS (Compendium of green infrastructure network systems), which is the repository for best practices, projects, and approaches in support of Green Infrastructure (GI) and Water Sensitive Urban Design and planning (WSUDP) principles. It is an open platform where the latest thinking on natural capital, ecosystem services, and nature-based solutions is brought together. (https://www.cseindia.org/c-gins/home)

These toolkits are designed to give a detailed synopsis of the city with regards to water management and sanitation planning at present and in the future. It focuses on convergence at all levels, importance of stakeholder involvement, spatial representation of city and long-term planning aspects. CSE's continuous motivation towards the usage of sustainable and environmentally harmonious interventions describes the reason for selection.
