CAIP Forum Objectives

The Climate Adaptation Investment Planning Forum 2024 (#CAIP2024) will bring together selected countries, development partners, financial institutions and climate funds. #CAIP2024 will:

  • Identify challenges and opportunities for undertaking climate adaptation investment planning;
  • Share tools, methodologies and experiences of undertaking climate adaptation investment planning;
  • Identify key priorities and associated support for enabling climate adaptation investment planning.

#CAIP2024 will focus on three key areas:

  1. Risk informed development pathways: how understanding of current and future climate risks can be considered among broader development risks and opportunities to determine the most appropriate development pathways to pursue;

  2. Prioritizing adaptation investments: how to identify strategic adaptation investments based on priorities identified in National Adaptation Plans or equivalent documents, prioritize these investments based on country’s public investment management (PIM) processes and economic and financial assessments, and identify policy and regulatory reforms needed to incentivize uptake of relevant investments by the private sector; and

  3. Funding and financing for adaptation investments: how to determine the appropriate ways of funding priority adaptation investments and mobilizing financing from various international and national sources of public and private finance. Discussions will also cover issues related to strengthening the broader enabling environment to support adaptation investment planning, including inter-sectoral coordination, vertical and horizontal linkages, and partnerships to enable transformative and scalable adaptation investments.
