Sommer Austria is a manufacturer of maintenance-free and highly accurate non-contact discharge and flow sensors. The sensor is able to independently provide 24/7 data of  streams of 20cm to rivers over 1km in width together with the Sommer Smart Data processing. This technology can be used in flood prediction by monitoring the catchment area. It can also help monitor and manage the distribution of water. We have close to 20 years of experience in developing, applying, and installing this technology globally.  

Flood prevention

The Sommer Discharge and Flow Sensor can help with water management by monitoring the complete catchment area and providing early information on potential flooding. Remote sensing and central management of data are key. This technology can alert government or civil society organizations so they can act before  a disaster happens by redirecting or slowing water flow.

Water distribution

As the demand for water for agriculture or industries increases and countries face climate change impacts, water distribution becomes politically important. The increasing water stress has the potential to create conflicts especially in transboundary waters, such as aquifers, lakes, and river basins shared by two or more countries. The Sommer compact independent sensors for Discharge and Flow measurement can provide independent neutral data which can be monitored by involved parties or a third party.
