We invite submissions of unpublished empirical analyses, survey articles, and policy-oriented research on a range of topics on MSME development, its access to finance, and policy design, including, but are not limited to, the following:

  • MSMEs and Digitalization: the effect of business digitalization on MSMEs in Asia and the Pacific, including digital divide and lessons from COVID-19 pandemic
  • MSMEs and Gender Mainstreaming: gender-balance growth in Asia and the Pacific, addressing analyses on women-led MSMEs and constraints
  • Entrepreneurship Development: entrepreneurship development in Asia and the Pacific, including studies on business informality, internationalization of MSMEs, technology-based small firms, innovation, and related challenges and opportunities
  • MSMEs and Finance: studies/assessment of various financing options for MSMEs, including MSME credit market, digital finance solutions, blended finance, and the role of capital markets
  • MSME Policies and Data Science: design of effective, evidence-based MSME policies toward resilient growth in Asia and the Pacific, including analyses of factors affecting MSME development and impact evaluation/RCT-based studies on MSME policy interventions in the region

Interested authors should register here to submit papers by 15 June 2024. Only completed papers with an abstract will be considered for evaluation. Submissions will be evaluated in terms of originality, analytical rigor, and policy relevance in the Asian context. Decisions on paper selection will be announced in July 2024.

The paper should have 6,000–8,000 words including references and adhere to the following structure:

  • Paper title
  • Author information (including co-authors): name, affiliation, address, and email
  • Abstract (150-250 words)
  • Introduction
  • Main text (split into various sections with headings and subheadings)
  • Conclusion and policy recommendations
  • References

Authors of accepted papers will be invited to the conference scheduled on 22 November 2024 and incorporated into the forthcoming ASM 2024 Volume II and may have an opportunity to submit their work for ADB Economics Working Paper Series or ADBI Working Paper Series.
