The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) developing member countries (DMCs) continue to focus on addressing road crash deaths and serious injuries to counter the more than 2,000 lives lost on the roads each day and losses of up to 6.6% of gross domestic product annually.1 In line with the commitments outlined in Sustainable Development Goal 3.6, and the United Nations’ statement on the 2030 Decade of Action, which calls for a 50% reduction of road traffic fatalities by 2030, DMCs have a significant task in implementing evidence-based interventions that will reduce deaths and serious injuries and create safe and sustainable transport systems.

The ADB, together with the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory, will deliver the following courses to engage DMC road safety staff and managers and technical practitioners in an immersive and targeted initiative to build capacity and understanding in the application of a safe system approach to road safety interventions.

This online program will build capacity and technical knowledge relating to: (i) Road Safety Management and Safer Road Users, (ii) Embedding evidence-based road safety interventions into transport projects, and (iii) The development of ‘system-based’ road safety projects, including the key role of management and resource mobilization.
