Steven is the Research Group Leader for Water-Energy-Carbon at the Advanced Water Management Center in the University of Queensland in Australia. A scientist with 30 years of experience, Steven has had senior roles in academia, industry, government, and consulting. He has led multiple major long-term projects for the Asian Development Bank, Water Research Foundation (United States), and the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (Australia), among others.

His focus is urban water security, energy-efficient water, and sustainable development. He teaches integrated water management, urban metabolism analysis, and sustainable or water-sensitive urban infill design using quantitative analytical tools to enhance understanding and management.
