Roshan is the Deputy Director in the Global Growth Opportunities Division of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, associated with the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) team and leading the urban sanitation market (USM) initiatives. The USM initiative deals with scaling up citywide inclusive sanitation (CWIS) and non-sewered sanitation, as well as innovative sanitation technologies through demonstration, capacity building, advocacy, and mobilizing resources from government and development partners. Roshan has more than three decades of working experience in the water and sanitation sector with significant field experience in planning, designing, and executing decentralized water and wastewater management and sustainable sanitation programs in South Asia. Prior to his current role, he was a regional technical advisor (for South Asia) for UN Habitat, where he was responsible for water and sanitation programs, such as slum upgrading programs in Bangladesh. Roshan is concurrently managing large capacity building portfolios for CWIS, including the Global Sanitation Graduate School – a network of more than 50 universities ¬– and leading the partnership between the Gates Foundation and the Asian Development Bank to expand CWIS and fecal sludge management in Asia. |
