Andrés is a Senior Policy Analyst for sanitation at WaterAid. He provides strategic leadership to WaterAid’s global sanitation research and advocacy agendas.

Andrés is a cross-disciplinary expert, combining engineering with development studies. He has analyzed the sanitation policy in India using a framework that integrates sustainability and political economy concepts, and as part of this, he conducted intensive field research on four community-led total sanitation-inspired experiences in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

His publications and subsequent work have influenced sanitation in India and globally. Current areas of interest include rural sanitation approaches, gender and sanitation, sanitation workers, and the sustainability of large sanitation systems.
