Mining Supply Chain Analysis in Mongolia

Author/s: Bold Sandagdorj; Enerelt Enkhbold

The purpose of this paper is to analyze interconnectedness between mining and non-mining sectors, contagious impacts of mining on other sectors, and mining supply chains in SMEs. This research provides empirical findings on how mining drives non-mining sector, and which non-mineral sectors are the most supported by or exposed to the mining through supply chains using data compiled from more than 60 mining companies. Although mining is cointegrated with other sectors, mining supply chain has been dominated by imports. The paper includes policy recommendations on improving the supply chain and contributions from local suppliers.
