Session 3C: COVID-19 and Mobility

Is Asia Learning to Live with COVID-19?

Author/s: Matteo Lanzafame, Irfan Qureshi, Marcel Schroder

Asian economies are still grappling with COVID-19. Yet, vaccines are making the virus much less deadly, thus changing nature of the pandemic. Can we live with COVID-19? Is it containment policy or the pandemic that keeps people at home? We explore these questions by investigating the relationship between infections, containment stringency, mobility, and vaccines in developing Asia. Preliminary evidence suggests people in the region are adapting to living with the virus: mobility has increased over time, for any given degree of containment stringency, number of infections, and vaccination coverage.
