Impacts of COVID-19 on Households in ASEAN Countries: Medium run impacts and the role of government support
Author/s: Peter Morgan, Long Trinh, Kunhyui Kim
The COVID-19 pandemic had significant negative impacts on households in ASEAN countries, while, in response, governments carried out large-scale support measures, including direct transfers to households. To capture these impacts, we carried out two waves of surveys households in of 7 ASEAN countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Both waves captured impacts of the pandemic over time, while the second wave also obtained the amount of government aid received by households. Using this data, we analyze the distributional impacts of government aid to assess its effectiveness and implications for inclusive recovery.
