Session 1B: Green Energy Transition

District cooling

Author/s: Alfredo Bano Leal

With rapidly increasing demand for cooling in residential and supply chain applications, especially in Asia, energy efficient low carbon cooling will be an essential component of the global effort towards mitigating and adapting to climate change. This paper compares the economic benefits of concentrated and district cooling solutions vis-à-vis typical air-conditioning appliances typically used in multistore residential buildings in most Asian cities. Such economic benefits include those related to climate change mitigation through greenhouse gas emission reduction. Finally, this paper also discusses potential policy implications and how regulations and policies would support transition to low carbon cooling in Asia.
