This session will provide investigators with essential tools and insights to effectively investigate retaliation claims. Building on the discussions from the CII 2023 workshop, this session offers real-world examples and case studies to address common challenges faced in retaliation investigations. The panel will explore key topics, including the preliminary assessment of claims, coordination of protective measures, and distinguishing retaliation from other forms of misconduct. Participants will also engage in discussions around the shifted burden of proof and establishing both individual and institutional responsibility. This session is designed as a practical forum for investigators to enhance their techniques and strategies in tackling an increasingly prevalent and complex category of misconduct.
