External Investigations: Navigating Corruption, Cultural Norms, and Human Rights Violations

Wednesday, 13 November 2024  |  15:30–16:45 (GMT +8)

Multifunction Hall 2

This interactive open floor exchange will explore the challenges and nuances of external investigations, with a focus on two critical areas: navigating the complex interplay between corruption and cultural norms, and investigating human rights violations in donor-funded projects. Participants will discuss how to effectively address and differentiate between corruption and cultural practices, and how to ensure that investigations align with both local contexts and international standards. Additionally, the session will address the practicalities of investigating human rights violations in projects funded by donors, including the potential conflicts and mandates that arise. Through open discussion and case studies, attendees will develop strategies for managing these intricate issues and ensuring thorough, effective investigations.
