Sushil Dhakal

Mr. Sushil Babu Dhakal, an eminent figure in Nepal’s infrastructure sector and a leading voice in regional road safety. Mr. Dhakal currently serves as a Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, holding a pivotal role in shaping national transport policies and development programs. He is also the elected Chairperson of the Steering Committee for the Asia Pacific Road Safety Observatory (APRSO), a position he has held since October 2022, demonstrating his regional leadership in promoting safer roads. 

With nearly three decades of dedicated service, Mr. Dhakal has significantly contributed to Nepal's road infrastructure development and management. His career highlights include serving as the Director General of the Department of Roads (DoR) from February 2023 to June 2024, the highest technical post within Nepal’s road sector. He has also held key leadership positions as Project Director for major infrastructure initiatives financed by international partners, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Indian Exim Bank. 

Mr. Dhakal has been instrumental in formulating Nepal’s Road Safety Policy, Road Safety Act, and the Road Safety Investment Plan 2024–2030, while introducing Safe Road Demonstration Corridors and nationwide blackspot mapping.  

Academically, Mr. Dhakal is highly accomplished, holding an M.Sc. in Transportation Engineering from Tribhuvan University, where he graduated as the top-ranked student in his batch. For his distinguished service to the nation, he was honored with the "Suprabal Jana Sewa Shree, Third Class” by the President of Nepal in 2022.
