Benedict L. J. Eijbergen
Practice Manager, Transport, East Asia and Pacific

In 2017 Mr. Eijbergen was appointed as the Practice Manager Transport for Southern Africa, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria. Before that Mr. Eijbergen was the World Bank’s Program Leader for Economic Integration in India (2014-17) and in that role he oversaw the Transport & ICT, Urban Development, Social Development, Energy and PPP programs in India. Between 2002-2005 Mr. Eijbergen performed the role of Transport Program Team leader for Russia and Ukraine and managed various projects in the road, railways and urban transport sectors. He assumed the position as Infrastructure Sector Coordinator for the World Bank’s Philippines country office in 2005.

Prior to joining the World Bank Mr. Eijbergen worked for the Government of Netherlands’ Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water as Senior Policy Advisor for Infrastructure. Mr. Eijbergen held a leading role in the restructuring of the Dutch Railways in 1993-1995 and managed transport infrastructure projects in the metropolitan area of Rotterdam and The Hague. In early 1996 Mr. Eijbergen was appointed Transportation Attaché for the Netherlands’ Government in Washington D.C.

Mr. Eijbergen has a MScs in Economics from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
