Sam Clark
Head of Programmes
Transaid
Sam Clark has worked in the field of international development for over 20 years for both national and international NGOs. As Head of Programmes at Transaid, Sam has been the lead for a number of road safety related programmes, specifically focusing on influencing safe driver behaviour through the introduction of rigorous, high quality training with an emphasis on truck and bus drivers. Sam first started working with motorcycle taxi riders in Uganda 10 years ago, developing an emergency transport system in rural areas to overcome the transport related barriers to accessing health services for rural communities. Since then, Sam has participated in one of the largest sub-Saharan Africa studies to date investigating the uptake of two/three-wheelers in five countries, DRC, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and now leads the development of a National Helmet Wearing Coalition in Kenya, whereby key stakeholders are working collaboratively to improve motorcycle taxi safety.
