Mr. Ishtiaque Ahmed, PhD is the focal point for road safety at the United Nations ESCAP based in Bangkok.

Dr. Ahmed served as a Global Task Force member representing the ESCAP region in developing the current Global Plan of Action for Road Safety. He also led the development of the Asia-Pacific Regional Plan of Action for Road Safety for the current Decade. 

He obtained a Master degree from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in Transportation Engineering in 1997. He obtained a PhD degree in 2003 from the University of Kansas, USA and his dissertation topic was on road safety. 

His previous experiences include his service as an Associate Professor of Transportation Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor Bahru, where he taught road safety to post-graduate students and conducted research from 2012 to 2014.

He also served as a Transport Specialist at the World Bank from 2006 to 2012.  

Dr. Ahmed is a Registered Professional Engineer in Bangladesh and a Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engine
