ADB–Japan Funds Week:
Towards a Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific

At the ADB’s 54th Annual Meeting in May 2021, the Government of Japan underscored the need to overcome the current pandemic crisis and achieve resilient recovery by enhancing preparedness for future shocks and building a strong and sustainable foundation for future growth. At that occasion, the Government of Japan announced its further support to ADB through the enhanced JFPR – the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific, providing the new direction for the original Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction. The enhanced JFPR was approved by the ADB Board on 1 September 2021, with the new set of Implementation Guidelines operationalized on 1 January 2022.

Since its establishment in May 2000, the original JFPR has made significant contributions to ADB’s efforts toward poverty reduction. With the GOJ’s contribution of close to $1 billion, the fund has financed a total of 520 project grants and technical assistance in 36 developing member countries amounting to $1.027 billion, making it the biggest single-donor trust fund in ADB to record such accomplishment.

As the JFPR transitions into its new direction in 2022, ADB will have the 1st ADB–Japan Funds Week on 27 June to 1 July with the theme, “Beyond the Pandemic: Forging Ahead with the Enhanced Japan Funds”.

This week-long virtual event is ADB’s way of showing appreciation to the Government of Japan for its continued generous support for Japan Funds in the past two decades and highlighting JFPR's accomplishments and support to ADB operations.

It includes:

  • Virtual exhibit on JFPR and other Japan Trust Funds
  • JFPR Anniversary event
  • Policy dialogue between ADB and Japan’s Ministry of Finance Management on New JFPR directions
  • ADB–Japan Scholarship Program Symposium: Knowledge for Development
  • Technical Session among Sector and & Thematic Groups, Regional Departments and Partner Funds                    Division (SDPF) on the New JFPR Priority Areas and Coordination Mechanism
  • Meet the Japan Funds Team
