Details
Water Operators’ Partnerships (WOPs) are one of the most effective ways of transferring knowledge from an advanced (mentor) to a developing operator (recipient). Sharing operational know-how is central to the WOPs practice. The approach focuses on taking lessons from the mentor’s experiences while solving their challenges to help build the capacity of the recipients. In doing so, the recipients’ learning curve is faster, allowing them to improve their operations, and provide better services more efficiently.
WOPs are implemented and facilitated globally by many organizations, among which are the ADB and WaterLinks in Asia and the Pacific. Under the Boosting Effectiveness for Water Operators’ Partnerships (BEWOP) initiative, GWOPA has developed guidance and monitoring tools to make WOPs more efficient and to encourage more players to participate.
This workshop focuses on introducing WOPs, providing a snapshot of WOPs efforts that have helped improve water operators worldwide, and introducing guidelines and monitoring tools to adequately capture the learnings of WOPs. This workshop is meant for WOP practitioners and water operators alike, for newcomers and veterans, and offers interactive exercises to allow participants to test and provide feedback on a selection of tools.
Workshop description:
The workshop will be organized in several sessions:
• Session 1: Introduction to WOPs, process and challenges
• Session 2: The WOP phases: preparation, implementation and follow-through
• Session 3: Summary of workshop
Learning objectives:
• Promote awareness on WOPs and its efficiency
• Promote the tools developed by GWOPA for use of water operators and WOPs facilitators
• Solicit input from participants for the improvement of the tools
