Gundo Weiler
Director for Country Support and Emergencies at the WHO Regional Office for Europe




Dr Gundo Weiler has more than 20 years of experience with WHO - supporting countries in Europe, Asia and Africa develop integrated approaches to health, development and emergencies. 

Dr Weiler is currently Director for Country Support and Emergencies at the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Previously, Dr Weiler served as Director for Data, Strategy and Innovation at the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific, WHO Representative to the Philippines, Coordinator of the Global HIV and Hepatitis Programme at Headquarters, and Communicable Disease Coordinator in Ukraine, amongst others. Prior to joining the WHO, he engaged in clinical, research, NGO and development work in Germany, France, Australia and the Philippines. 

Dr Weiler has led organizational change processes in WHO offices at country, regional and global level, aiming to render WHO more effective in helping countries build effective and future-proof health systems that based on evidence, innovation, strategic information and systems transformation. Dr Weiler holds a degree in medicine from Humboldt University of Berlin, and a doctoral degree in social medicine from the Free University of Berlin, and a degree in Health Systems Management from the University of London. 

Dr Weiler is married and has three children.
