COVID-19 in the Kyrgyz Republic: Socioeconomic and Vulnerability Impact Assessment and Policy Response

The socioeconomic assessment (published in August 2020) describes how the global, regional and national macroeconomic shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the Kyrgyz Republic’s population. It elaborates effects of the pandemic on economic sectors slowdown and labor market disruptions; assesses likely differentiated regional effects; identifies health sector challenges, with pathways to improve access to services; implications for food security and poverty on existing and newly vulnerable sections of the population; and issues faced in reconfiguring existing social protection instruments. The assessment proposes recommendations not only limit negative socioeconomic effects, but to also help government build-back-better.
