Boosting Mongolia’s Long-term Economic Growth Through More Equal Labor Force Participation Between Men and Women

In Mongolia, 53.4% of women participate in the labor force compared to 68.3% for men. COVID-19 has made the situation worse with female labor force participation falling further behind. Government policies promoting gender equality can have a positive impact on female labor force participation. ADB estimates show that eliminating gender inequality at work and home in Mongolia would increase female labor participation to 63.2%. This would result in an increase of the annual per capita growth rate of 0.5%, increasing GDP by 63% in 30 years. This Policy Brief concludes by providing recommendations to boost female labor force participation.
