Discovering Eco-Therapy and Sustainability for Wellness Travel

The session explores the healing power of nature and the biodiversity in the environment for today’s wellness challenges. The discussion will focus on how to operationalize or “live” environmental protection and sustainability into a wellness travel experience from farm-to-table, to aquaponics, composting, green nutrition, etc. to create authentic and natural experiences that enrich the mind and the soul, leading to a healthier emotional, psychological and mental wellbeing. It also looks into the role of wellness travel in delivering occupational health benefits from movement by nature, breathing in nature, walking, wading, etc., as well as looking into natural alternatives to boosting physical and mental health, leading to happiness. Lastly, it gives insights on how tourism can play a role in designing places of stay and play to amplify eco-therapy, optimizing on the natural wealth and resources of the country in championing “nature” and “sustainability” as a compelling R&R offering, post-pandemic.

From Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, to the Philippines, Cathy understands how the coalescence of nature and culture delivers a beautiful experience of the destination, giving back as much as taking from it. And this balance delivers sustainability and overall wellness from all stakeholders. She hosts the regular WORLD OF DISCOVERY Facebook live webinar of the Discovery group, sharing learnings and tips, from Discovery experts and distinguished guests, to combat the current pandemic (that continues to ravage the industry), as well as looks into the silver linings and future picture of the post-pandemic travel world. |

Edgardo Vermudo |
A graduate from the University of the Philippines (U.P.) Los Banos, Laguna, he did not only study but most of all put into practice the tenets of Forestry profession in the Philippines and other parts of the world. He has 24 years of experience on development of Integrated Tree Farming and Agriculture. He was Operations Manager and Business Development Officer in Africa, where he developed his skills in People Management, Marketing, Financial Projections and Budgeting. As a Forester in Indonesia, he was equipped in Tree Plantation Harvesting Wood Preservation and Treatment Surveying, Mapping and Planning GIS. He gathered experience in agricultural practices that empowered farmers under his training. He is a tertiary professional farm operations manager, with a high level of acquired experience in overseeing plantations and implementing agricultural practices. His experience as a Farm Manager in Micronesia and Hawaii allowed him to exercise his farming skills, creating Sustainable Development Organic Farming, Integrated Pest Management and Drip Irrigation methods. Presently, he is the Consultant of Discovery World Corporation for its ‘farm to table’ concept of organic agriculture. He travels to India, Thailand and Vietnam as Consultant for Agri-Ecotourism. He is also currently the President and Operations Manager of LuminoEnergy Plantations Inc., Lumino Capital LLC, CEO of Magtree Solutions Inc., and Chairman of the Board of 1DBS Global Trading Corporations.
